Default Anyone thought of making a buggy out of an XJ halfcut?

Once in a while I get some crazy idea because of a need.

I just sold my black buggy.

Now I'm looking at an XJ half cut and thinking... hmmm it wouldn't take much to make this into a buggy. Just well a roll cage to the half cut, make it strong and them hammer the crap out of it.

Anyone done it?

Check on Pirate Or NAXJA plenty of XJ builds, saw one that competed in KOH a few times and has done pretty well,

EDIT: here is the one that i was thinking of, probably a bit more then what you want to do, but a great build none the less

there's not really any XJ in that looking at the pics on the last few pages

XJ wouldn't be my pick of frames to start building a buggy from.. You'd be better off picking something with full rails for frame rigidity. Depends what you're planning on doing to it, what your budget is and what the application is.

I'm just going for the quickness of the build. I need to make one buggy asap for a few comps in my area.

There is still the bonnet, engine and the grille

You want a quick build, use something with rails... TJ/CJ or FJ or Sierra if you're not particularly wanting to stick to Jeep. If I was builng a quick/cheap car based buggy the Sierra or TJ chassis would be my frame of choice depending on the overall size I was expecting to use.

Cut the rails infront of the firewall and tube the front end with engine mounts.. Cut the rails behind the seats and tube the rear end. Build 6 point cage over tubed section and into remaining chassis and you're good to go.

LS1/Turbo400/Atlas combo on a set of D60's and and you're good to go. (sounds easy hey)

If you use monocoque you're going to have to reinforce the frame and run tubing through the guts of it to mount your cage to etc.
