Hhhmm had the 2.8CRD in a 2 dr for 4yrs loved it, did 220,000km averaged around 11s.

Now got the 3.6 in a 4dr, weight is similiar due to lighter motor. Only done 14k so far, quiet n seems to use around 13s mixed inner city and highway.

Prefered the torque when towing and in hilly conditions with the CRD and it certainly paid for extra cost of the VM motor quiet easily, more so now with diesel below 98.

But ....... I can now out drag most shit boxes at the lights so the hoon in me says V6 !!

Drive em both its close but look at ya needs ??

With the V6 and auto i can upgrade to the 5.7 hemi down the track and maybe even do a Hellcat motor swap and build the first 9sec Wrangler lol

I think more information is required before blanket statements like this. The OP's budget is an important factor.

I never would have got the 3.8. At the time a 3.6 was minimum $30,0000. I got a diesel for $20,000. Diesels may cost more to maintain but they do depreciate less. For my circumstances if the diesel doesn't have a major problem I will be a long way in front.

There is more to it than mileage.

Ignoring costs, I believe that the diesel is a better engine for a 4wd

I think it's much better on fuel usage than a petrol (once modified or towing) but they're both brick shaped and fuel usage isn't amazing for either.

Diesel maintenance costs are higher, assuming dealer pricing and an ideal service schedule but real costs are more dependent on the quality of servicing and if unexpected things go wrong.

To me, the diesel 'feels' like a 4wd should feel and that's hard to put a $ value on.

Spend a few minutes and do a "problem" post countback for each engine / transmission type.

You can decide from there.
