Memory Maps on my iPad, 1:25,000 scale, Hema on my Garmin Nuvi and MyGig on my 2014 JKU Rubicon.

Garmin is a great all rounder, Memory Maps fantastic for off road specific and with the 2014/2015 maps on the MyGig it's great as an onroad GPS device now.

What are people using for on road maps when using a tablet?
Memory maps seems to be the way to go for off road on them by the looks of it.

Just get something like a Garmin Nuvi that comes standard with lifetime map updates.
In the case with garmin that's every 6 months.

Google maps for on road, free and accurate. If you dont have 3/4g access you can cache maps or tether to your phone.

I use Metroview on my iPhone for on road. It's not free (about $20 I think) but it's heaps better than Google Maps (I think). The only thing is you need to remember to "exit" the program (ie switch it off through the inbuilt menu) when not using otherwise it's constantly running in the background and eats the battery. Not difficult to do and takes 2 seconds. Just a case of remembering to do that rather than just hitting the home button. I also have it for the iPad which would be great on the bigger screen, if I could only decide how to mount the damn thing!

I have used memory maps for off road (both iPhone & iPad) and when it works it's great. You can get fantastic maps coverage, of the easter seaboard at least. Some maps are a little old but they are really detailed. My only issue (and I suspect this is me rather than the program) is getting the maps to upload onto the machine so it will hold more than just 70 square km worth of map and can therefore work when it's out of mobile range. Seems to work sometimes and not others.

try to upload from a PC, it want be as easy as android due to no direct file system access but MM support says it can be done.

I have all of the 1:25K Victoria maps on my PC and phone+tablet so tend to plan routes on the PC before i go, then transfer to the tablet, works pretty well.
