Default Thanks for all the help.

Hi Gents, thanks for all your posts.here are some links toother groups about the same problem. Of special interest is the insert set for the repair. It is available on ebay out of both US and UK. Worth the read. Might even be good enough for Drovers 2.7 links page. If some one buys the kit it could be rented out. Depending on what happens that may be me.

Good couple of links there as well as info about Timeserts, have added to Everything 2.7

I wonder if anyone who runs with the engine cover off ever gets the black death ???? Was wondering if it makes things a bit hotter under there? I haven't had the engine cover on since about 80,000k

I'm running topless too now these days and can't say I notice anything different (except for the stares of disgust haha). Temps seem the same, not sure if much noisier either.

You can buy the timeserts locally from http://www.crosstools.com.au, yes they are dearer but the delivery is overnight if you are in a hurry. I've used these on one of my glow plugs very successfully.

If you need a good seal the timeserts are the way to go, if you don't need a good seal, a helical is a much stronger device to use.

I like you theory about the cover but this wouldn't explain the rear injectors to me, although they do seem to run a lot hotter overall due to their location. This may also be due to the inlet ports clogging up with EGR soot too, when I clean my manifold out the rear ports were far worse than the front ports. This would richen up the rear cylinders which would make them run hotter if memory serves correctly.

I'll add that link of yours also bodgie, interesting about the rear ports, I would love to pull my manifold off but one look at it and I think yuck, what a job besides it's all working good so leave well enough alone plus I've had the EGR mod for yonks now so it shouldn't be too bad. I hope.

I took mine off because :
1. Easy to see if anything evil is there and
2. I broke it during an oil change,as someone spilt a heap of oil everywhere.

Hi Drover,

It is a $hit of a job so I'd also be cautious about pulling the inlet manifold off. I would be running some EGR clear through it regularly though to help clean things up.

Mine is running very well now, it actually seems to get better with every mile I put on it, although the new injectors would have a lot to do with it.
