The motor only starts if you press the unlock button on the remote a couple of times, whilst the key is in the ignition............otherwise, the motor just churns over but will not start ??

The light is on the left on top of the dash

Hi.

I have a Grand Cherokee Laredo, built June '96 so I think it would be the same as yours.

There should be a small red flashing light on the left side above the glove box near the windscreen. The light will flash when the immobiliser is charged. Will turn off when disarmed.

The remote should disarm the immobiliser when the button is pressed just once. With mine, you do not need to have the key in the ignition to disarm the immobiliser.

My remote is a bit fiddly and I sometimes I have to tap the unit for it to work. Why I say this is that possibly the nuisance is in the remote. Have you replaced the battery in the remote unit. It is a common button battery that can be bought just about anywhere and well worth replacing frequently as there would be nothing worse than a flat remote in the middle of nowhere.

Hope this helps..
