Any thoughts?

mate, did you see where mine was on the w/e? i've got a GME detachable face one (tx3440?), with a number of the controls (such as ch up/down) in the handset.
the face is located just below the cigarette lighter/switches area, with the base unit sort of beside the passengers right leg. might re-locate it somewhere else out of sight if i get some aux speakers.
works really well, is relatively out of sight and is easily accessible by both the driver and navi.

Mines below the ciggie lighter and 12V power. Don't put anything near the sides of your leg. The chair will be restricted from moving forward.

Oh and why coming to the Neerim nasty Emma or Will?

I have an Alpine Head deck (6 stack in centre console) and a GME UHF in the 1.5 din hole in the dash without any cutting of the plastic surround, looks sweet.

here you go:

here's the guts of the remote head radio, it's under the passenger seat and i 've got an extension speaker up under the dash:

Yes the radio on the drivers side of the console doesn't allow the seat to be moved forward and i can only slide the passenger side forward which is ok for me.
