Did yours do it regardless of oil temperature?
Yes, it flares from the first change in the morning to when it's at full running temp.
If I was you I'd do all the checks such as oil change, oil level, valve body connector plate, solenoids and valve wear etc. before you remove the transmission.
In my research I have just found out that there's an expert in European transmission in Melbourne that does complete valve body checks and repairs. Many auto trans mechanics send their valve bodies to Manuel Automatics for diagnosis & repairs
http://www.manuelautomatics.com.au/ The picture on his home page is a Merc 722.6

I promise not to hijack anymore after this post. Mine does it only when fully warmed up and after I spoke to Sonnax, they said the overlap sleeves are the most likely culprit.

To my luck, I am in Europe.

Hijack over, I'll keep an eye out and see the evolution of your rebuild.

Your not hijacking just adding more helpful info on potential transmission problems. As far as I'm aware there's been no talk of NAG1/ Merc 722.6 transmission problems on this WH/XH forum yet.
After my transmission rebuild of the clutch plates I may send off my valve body for a complete service check. The company I mentioned in Melbourne charge between $800 to $1500 depending on whats required. It's a full diagnostic check when pressure testing and other hi tech methods. Not just a look over. I'll just see how smooth and responsive the changes are before making the decision.

I'm finally back from 4 weeks of business travels and put the transmission back together this week and reinstalled my spare transfer case with the new chain and sprockets, drive shafts back in and the replaced front diff bushes and the beast is purring like a kitten.
It's great to be back on the road again, I even went for a picnic as well as some 4x4 driving up some out of the way tracks in the Glass House Mountains today.
Life's good!

here a few shots of the operation conducted and one of the completed and reassembled transmission. There are so many parts that can be replaced. I didn't have to replace all the clutch plates as most of them were in excellent condition the main problem was the valve body needed a full test and repair and the B2 steel plates were showing major wear on their internal teeth.
There's also a shot of my modified trolley jack that i used to lift the transmission back into place. Removing and lowering the transmission and transfer case then repositioning them back was the hardest job. In fact it was $hit scary. If they fell they would break a limb or crush me and even worst still get damaged.

B2 steel plates that have worn badly on each side of the teeth . I also bought a Transgo valve upgrade kit to make the shifts firmer and stronger too.
