You WILL need to take it off to do it easily (well as easy as it gets) - just do it, and jack the car body up - so that the front axle drops, this gives a little more room - and every bit counts

i didnt have any issue with mine i got a 6" lift plenty of room to get it in and out

the bottom 2 are the easy ones (stock height jeep might be differant)?

with the top bolt .if you get enough extention bars, 2 flex joints and a person with a skinny arm to make sure the socket stays on the bolt you can go straight under the manifold and dont have to remove anything,
worked for me twice now

took about 30mins in and out

Still happens in Europe, ask Deizel Weezel.

Talking

Does siberia belong to europe???

I still remember the military trucks where you had to ignite a fire below the engine in abuild in drawer. Worked pretty good. But this is 20 years ago

Every modern military truck has a diesel driven engine heater and my XJ too...

I did the top bolt today. 1/4" drive socket with 6" extension. It was tight as.
skinny hands does help.

One of the long studs that the back mount is attached to decided to come undone at the other end so I cant remove the back mount before removing the starter.

The Smiths have it right about the engine mount, will attack that tomorrow if the weather stays good.

Once out the fun begins !! I have repaired a few starters in the past. This one appears to have a solenoid problem. May be a case of servicing the unserviceable.

The solenoids are the same pre and post update - a Bosch unit (can't remeber code) but was used on other makes of car as well - well in Europe anyway....

well after replacing all the relays and fuses in the engine bay the jeep still didnt want to start last week.
today and yesterday though being 8c both morning it did start after glowing it only twice but sort of ran a little rough for about 3-5 seconds. it normially wont start if its below 10c.

the only thing i have done is i took it on about 1000k trip on the week end???

so i will see how it keeps going. maybe it just wanted a long drive??
i sometimes think they have a mind of there own??

one other thing summer 3yrs ago i blow a hose out of the back of the water pump was approx 35c day, and had to drive the jeep approx 5k to pull over (was towing a big car trailer with a landcruier on it), so it had very little water in the engine, once stopped it had steam pooring (like a steam train and hissing) out the hose, and not a drop of water.

now that was 3yrs ago?

could this possibly have something to do with that day?? or was i lucky not to do any damage the engine? at the time the jeep only had 65,000k on the clock it is now at 90,000k
the jeep hasnt missed a beat up untill this winter? but once going it runs like a dream, doesnt use water or oil, and blows very little smoke.
