Ramps?
Reason not to undo with the rattle is it's near impossible to count your revolutions.

Ramps are a good idea, I might give them a shot after I try my larger axle stands.

Yeah that makes sense, I didnt go with counting revolutions to measure though - I marked nut position and counted the number of threads. The issue was that I missed a thread while I was tightening it back up... because I'm a goose.

Hey JJ, did you pop it up on stands and use a big breaker? I'm gonna make a list of parts to borrow from the truck servicing dept. out back once the parts arrive

I'm going to see if the workshop at work has one I can borrow (and maybe a bigger breaker/impact gun while I'm at it).

If I can't find anything better I might order that T&E wrench and let you know how it goes.

After I finished sooking yesterday I'm now actually excited to do the pinion preload - always wanted to learn more differential work Worst case I'll slap a new diff in I guess haha
Oh so I just heard back about that wrench - turns out its NLA. They have a direct replacement for ~$130 though so that's an option.

No I didn't use stands as I use the tyres on the ground to help hold it all stationary but I guess it'd work...

I have another question for you all (JJ please feel free to take this one too though ) - When measuring pinion preload torque, will I be required to remove the carrier? It seems like this is a requirement, but I wonder if you can just allow for extra drag due to the carrier (with axles removed) since you have a 10in-lb target band?
