We live in Outback Qld at the moment, and so do a lot for keeping roo numbers down for the locals. How do we do it.... Steel Bullbar all the way... Change your front springs if ya have too!

Our original bar was alloy, not strong enough for roo hunting, and a bugger to keep clean, so traded it for a mean arb winch bar.... never looked back.. The ARB bars are pretty smich...bloody well designed and made.

Re Shu Roos.... had some fitted with the vehicle...I'm really not convinced, and can guarentee that they wont stop you hitting roos. We've hit heaps with the shu-roos turned on.

They certainly dont seem to make a lot of difference with other animals either.

Our current shu-roo is the 4 speaker model. Was speaking to the guy at the factory in Brisbane recently (they are very helpful) and he advised that there is a new model comming out soon - it's apparently 4x stronger/louder....so if you are thinking of a shu-roo it might be worth waiting for that. He said that they'd replace ours since we havent had it long with the new model as soon as it was available. Can give you an update once its on.

Shit, with four speakers why don't you just play something loud by Meatloaf or Queen?

Exactly...I asked the shu roo dude that same question.

He looked at me strangely. Pity, I was hoping for an answer...would be great for camping.

i always wondered if mud pattern tyres mad enough noise to shoo roo's on there own, i have only ever had to once come close to a collision with a roo, i have always run muddies of some sort too and drive on plenty of roo infested roads. just a thought.

Yeah they work really well.

Well at least after they squash the roos ears.

A big ole roo can put a ding in an ARB steel bar as I once discovered in a Landcruiser. Hurt the roo more, though.

The ol' man used to make roo bars when i was growing up out western Queensland. He tells me he used to make 5 post roo bars which he reckons would last for at least a few hundres collisions, all for the price of under $300. I priced an ARB bullbar - $980, or $1300 for a color coded winch bar. They've come a long way in the years (mostly price) but i still don't think the Shu-Roo's work. I reckon the good old bullbar will work everytime, especially the steel types. :D
