pHWOAR lots of questions! I'll take some pics tomorrow.

>Loric, can you explain how you handled getting that top rivet thingee out (that the plastic tyre cover is attached to the door with on the left side),

I removed the inner trim and pulled the rivet 'bolt' from the inside and the squeezed the 'expanding' bit flat. The removed the rivet flange bit from the outside. The rivet is really like one of those plasterboard anchors. You could drill it out, but it's pretty easy to remove from the inside...

>and how did you get the wires out of the plastic carrier without cutting them?

I cut the harness and soldered a Hella weatherproof connector on it.

The other half of the connector is attached to the harness section that runs to the numberplate lamp.
The lamp itself is a $15 Narva job.

The plate is attached to a hinged flap thing that is bolted using the original tyre carrier bolts. Hinged coz you gotta get to the bolts with the brace.
You could mount the plate further away from the wheel (and get the wrench behind the plate),but i like to use a cross brace so needed the plate to swing upwards.

Pics are worth a million words - so i'll post em tomorrow.

Overall - it's an easy job. 2hrs tops. $15 for the lamp, $10 for the connector, and some scrap Al laying around...

Well I just got onto this thread...
255/70/16 fit ok, need to elongate the holes a little & take a little plastic out in the hinge area so it closes, no problem with the flipper glass.

Since I fitted MOABS the clamshell had to go & fabbed up a plate holder & fitted LED plate lights. Mine isnt hinged its fixed, so I keep a 19mm ring spanner with the jack kit to remove it when needed. I also went the Hella plug & cut the loom. If aussiejeepimages actually worked I could show you some pics.

yeah I had to elongate the holes as well for 245/75/16s. I thought about deflating the tyre but i wasn't sure if that was going work. Knowing my luck the air compressor would stop working just when I needed to use the tyre..

I was thinking of taking off the clam shell to put on a jerry holder but i just realized that i need a light for the plate. Does anybody know if this is a legal requirement? I'm guessing it is..

Fouros i can't see if you have a light on not on yours?...
