Default What tyre sizes can squeeze into stock spare holder?

What tyre sizes can squeeze behind that plastic spare / number plate holder?
In particular I'm wondering if a 245/70/16 will fit, but if people have managed to squeeze other sizes in there then this thread might become a useful resource for others.

Please add if you had to modify the holder to fit the tyre and how and also whether the tyre interferes with the rear flip-up glass.

Thx, ciao!.

245/70/16 should fit no worries, maybe, you might have to elongate the holes in the door for the closing bolts... I have 31/10.5/15 Mickey T - MTZ in there myself.

Agree with Damo, 245/70/16 D694 LTs fit ok and they are a big 245/70. Not all are the same size it depends on the tread pattern and construction.

You may have trouble getting your stock tyre cover onto a 245/70 (again depends on the tyre), I managed to get mine on but could not zip it up all the way (and it made closing the plastic cover more difficult - binding on the hinge). I finally took it off as I think it looks 'better' wthout the cover, and slightly more clearance on the hinge.

I run 245/75 - 16 Cooper Sts. Wheel cover fits, but the holes have to be elongated (a bit).

The fabric cover doesn't fit.

I've actuall removed the plastic cover thingy and have fabbed a simple numberplate and light mount. Makes tyre pressure checks on the spare heaps easier, and culls about 5-10kg off the weight of the rear door.

Loric, can you explain how you handled getting that top rivet thingee out (that the plastic tyre cover is attached to the door with on the left side), and how did you get the wires out of the plastic carrier without cutting them? A pictorial would be great - I'd like to take that plastic thing off the back door (mines dinged up from my rear end shunt at Camp Coffs).
