Let say you bought a brand new lead that has never been used, you would assume it to be fine (& in 99% of cases it would be) or you have used a couple of times. Remember your leads & equipment bounce around.
Most leads are made in some cheap arse back country cutting as much profit as possible. So they will use cheap insulation which with use heats up & breaks down. Causing the lead to be come unsafe/ignite/expose bare wires.

How would you feel if you were responsible for a fire/electric shock that kills someone?
Not to mention if nobody was injured but caused damage to equipment the bill could run into thousands of dollars. Because you didn't have the lead tested you are liable. As the insurance would not cover it. Where does this leave you & more so your family.

Is this worth a messily couple of dollars???
Sorry I've given a bit of a bum steer.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR TESTING AND TAGGING ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

AT A CARAVAN PARK?

The owner of a caravan park has a number of responsibilities under the Act and the Regulation:

1. The owner has a responsibility as an employer to any employees who work at the caravan park

2. The owner, as a ’controller of premises’, has responsibilities to other employers who may use the

caravan park facilities (eg a shop leased to another employer)

3. The owner of the caravan park has a general duty of care to the residents, holidaymakers and

visitors to the caravan park.

The owner of the caravan park (as an employer and controller of premises) must therefore comply

with the specific requirements of the OHS Regulation to ensure a safe electrical installation and safe

electrical equipment.

This requirement extends to both the electrical installation, and any plug-in type electrical equipment

under the ownership and control of the caravan park owner. The owner must comply with the

specific legislative requirements contained in clauses 41, 64 and 65 of the Regulation.

Note: These legislative obligations do not extend to plug-in electrical equipment owned by a

holidaymaker that is plugged into the caravan park’s electrical installation. There is no requirement

for this electrical equipment to be inspected, tested and tagged in accordance with the Standard,

AS/NZS 3760.

Regardless of this, WorkCover is aware that some caravan park owners have exercised a site rule

(based on public liability requirements) requiring holidaymakers to have their extension lead tested

and tagged.

After re-reading the Aust. Standard you only need to test the Extension lead that you are using to plug into you Camper or Caravan. However if you are camping like me then I'm testing the lead, power board & lighting. My little girl is worth it.

We do get brand new leads and equipment fail - its certainly not unusual.
Again, until I confirm with Lardner Park re 15/10amp, don't buy a 15amp lead just for the Jambo, as it may not fit.

This is the main problem raised by this thread. A camper with an integrated electrical system requires a 15A female plug at the camper end, but then, from what is being said, we can't plug this into the 10A hats at the park. So, doesn't matter if you get your 15A or 10A lead checked because it wont crossover from one to the other.

What about our Jeeps? Do they need to be tested and tagged?
Can I put the guy ropes up for our camper or will someone possibly trip up on them and sue me? Should I bring bunting and safety cones to put around our tent site and wear hi-vis clothing?

I realise it's not the parks fault but this stuff is coming up more and more - obviously the few morons that don't play it safe and use dodgy gear stuffed up and everybody else has to pay the price- Good Grief!!

Its the insurance companies saying do this or you wont be able to claim. So Lardner sais is you want to come here and camp youmust do this. So Jambo comitee sais if you want to come to the Jamo at Lardner you need to do this.
Get it?
Its about puting the ownus on the individual. That is 3 tiers away from the insuarance companies. JUST THE WAY THEY WANT IT.
