One conversion done in Toyota's is a 1.9TDI from VW.
From what I can gather al 4cyl VW's have the same bolt pattern (Michael, you could probably confirm or infirm this) and there is an adaptor readily available for mating the 4cyl VW's to AX15. Not sure if there are many 1.9tdi's in oz though.

The 2.5CRD from the KJ was mated to the NV3550, which has the same bolt pattern as the AX15. You could even swap in a complete KJ drivetrain.

I hear your thoughts on parts availability
and I hear deezel in the way of a strong built motor,
and yes the New Diesel colorado's/ rodeos are a strong motor, noisy but strong( my work now has a fleet of over 200 single & duel cabs, plus I had a single cab for over 12 months, the cost of the motor alone won't be worth it)

quick question to the knowledgeable: can the splines or the housings be changed to accomadate the new splines/ drive shafts.??

I'm sorry Adrian I have no idea about the VW's. They are a bit pricey...

I also know a built about a Nissan 6cyl Diesel D33T.
My major concern is part availability. I don't like to search at junkyards for parts. Japanese spare parts are really expensive.
