Lockers on the Grand...?

Personally I find the biggest letdown with the WJ/WG when offroad is its ride height. With my current suspension setup I'm 3" higher than when it was stock (No, I wouldn't call my suspension kit a 3" lift, but it still is 3" higher nonetheless...) and only now is my lowest point underneath (TC skid plate) the same height as x3 Surf's (stockish height) that I wheel with, and a Cruiser's and a mates TJ (2" lift on 31's)...

I'm not bagging the Grand's height as it was designed to be a luxurious SUV with good offroad ability, not a typical SUV that is only good at mounting kerbs when parked badly in shopping centres. To to do what we want them to do (offroad), I've found the ride height to be the most limiting factor.

With a bit of lift it is a decent height though?
Got me a Patriot as a daily drive car But I was thinking about getting a Grand with a bit of lift to use off road and to tow my boat/jet ski once i get one. I want a V8 too.
Is it worth getting a grand or is the height a problem?

From memory, my Grand with 30.5" (245/75/16) tyres had a rear diff height only 15 mm lower than my Patrol with 33" tyres.

Saying that, a Patrols rear diff is twice the size of a Grand's.

With a 3" lift, I don't have too much trouble with height, although I try and stay away from the tracks that have large boulders to avoid under sill damage.

The first day I bought the car I took it offroad and struggled to get over a small dirt mound without scraping - hence the lift and largest legal tyres that I could.

Here's the link to my measurements.

Interesting Clip on the QD1 testing.

I wonder if it makes much difference having it in low range therefore multiplying the Torque greatly and making it work quicker / more powerful?

It looks like he had that in normal everyday high range.? Thoughts?

I hate to sound biased, have a look and drive the WH CRD.
Don't just take my word for it, do some serious research!
Then you'll become biased too!
It outperforms the Prado's and all the little 2.5Lt CRD's that have come onto the market and leaves Pajero's in the dust.
Like I said - do some research - get yourself a copy of February's Caravan World magazine or read the transcript on this link -

happy hunting!

I would imagine low range would have the opposite effect. Yes it locks the front to the back at the TC, but low range actually makes the wheels turn/spin slower in comparison to engine revs than high range.

It's the spinning of the wheels that activates it by forcing fluid to lock up the diffs.

Yep Johnv - I agree. QDII is the best by far. Same as having an ARB locker!
