It's not just a Jeep thing though, my 86 Landcruiser Budera got hot as, and so does my mates 62 series. Can't go bare foot, it get's too hot both drivers and passenger footwell.

Buy one of those cheap windscreen sunvisors (the silver padded ones that look like the inside of the cargo hold on the spacesshuttle) and cut it up and stick it under the carpet near the trans tunnel.
Works well on the underside of the drink holders as well.
