Anyhoo, I too will be interested to hear how the fuel economy goes once you do a broader cross-section of driving. Particularly stop/start suburban backstreets and peak-hour conditions -- that's when my average starts to shoot up quite quickly.
My jk is consistently below the "combined" figure quoted on the sticker when we got it so i can believe another model jeep could be the same.

I just assume that the jeeps are optimised for their specific uses, rather than optimised for a specific test that doesnt translate to the real world.

Default kl Cherokee limited petrol fuel economy

Nah I wasn't driving it down hill...and it definitely is a petrol 3.2 litre/9 speed auto.I was driving it home very late at night(around midnight) when traffic was minimal on Eastlink freeway/tollway,so I was able to sit on a pretty constant 100km/h most of the way, apart from the tunnel of course which has an 80km/h speed limit.I did notice it was in eighth gear most of the way, revving at 1500 rpm at 100km/h.The fuel economy figures i quoted were ridiculously easy to achieve just by driving it normally down the freeway, and i even got pretty similar fuel economy readings when i drove it home from my parent's house on the same route on Easter Sunday. Also, the figures I quoted are not too far off what another forum member quoted for a petrol Trailhawk in an earlier post.
As for Urban/City fuel economy, from the limited km it has traveled so far,I have noticed that the average fuel consumption sits on around 10.2 litres/100km.

2011 WK2 - town cycle only 10.5-11.5 (add 1 if my wife is driving??). Open road only around 8.4 but have record low of 7.9 across 130 000 km.Not bad for a 2.5t beast.

Not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but I am getting about 7.5 around town, In Canberra as well. But I also tow a van and it goes up to 14-15 l/100. I intend to get a tune to compensate for the underpower. Van is a 15 ft Jayco outback and weighs 1700 kg. Time over, I may have gone for the GC, with the 3.0 ltr CRD. Still love the car for normal duties. Looks like I will set up the JK for towing duties as I think it will use less fuel over all.

Nice to hear from a fellow Canberran. Although we must live in different parts -- I don't think I've seen another diesel yet. Your 7.5 is pretty much my around-town average too. Although I'm still getting some 'real world disconnect', as I call it -- 7.5 is usually more like 8.0 when calculated manually at the pump.

Let us know how you go if you do get the tune. Even without towing a caravan, I think the diesel is a touch under-powered. I reckon the 2.2L diesel they sell in Europe sounds like it would be just about right.
