Default Wet carpet again.

Hi folks

I have been chasing a leak in the front of my XJ for a while. both foot wells are getting wet. I have sealed the windscreen and checked the air intake for debris, as well as the air conditioning drain, and all seem fine. I suspect that the water is coming out through the bottom of the heater, but i can't figure out how its getting in. It is definitely water not coolant so its not the heater core.
Any one had similar problems?

Might seem simple, but check for damage, holes or rust on the chassis. My
old 4WD was rusted around there, and left some decent holes, causing water to get in. Another one I've noticed can be door seals either worn out or not fitting properly.

Have you had the interior door trim off? If the the plastic is not replaced properly, rain water will leak into the car.

Hi Blujeep

Firstly does your jeep have a electric aerial if so read on.......

I had the same problem - footwells were wet .

I pulled all lower trim off and carpet and tested windows, seals etc, only to find that the rubber grommet for the electric aerial wires which pass through the guard had shrunk and was allowing water inside the cabin.

You can test this by removing the inside drivers footwell trim and also remove the inside wheel well were you will see the electric aerial and wires and grommet etc now this is were you need another person and a flashlight and some water.

Now get inside the drivers footrest with the flashlight and you will be able to see the wires from the aerial if you get in there on an angle, the 2nd person using the hose with water directs water onto the aerial grommet and if there is a leak you will see it.

Well if its not this then maybe this post will help someone else.

Guys thanks for the ideas,
i have already sealed round the gear change, (i thought i finally had it beat after that one), and the jeep is the first rust free vehicle I've ever owned, and yep she does have plastic under the door trims.
I will check out the electric aerial, there's no way i would have thought of that myself.
