Default '97 XJ Diesel Clutch Plate Torque Specification

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone knows the correct torque specification for a '97 XJ Diesel Clutch Plate. I can only find the 4.0L and the 2.5L (petrol, USA) in the FSM. No mention of torque for the diesel. The sooner anyone can let me know the better! I've got the motor sitting on a hoist ready to go in this arvo pending the correct torque spec!

Thanks all!
-Will

Start with the bolts marked "P"on the cover first! 50 Nm is the torque to be used.Torque them in a star pattern.
I feel the pain, Michael

let me know, if you need the torque for the bell housing bolts too
did you replace the pilot bearing while at it?

From the 99 FSM, Diesel clutch section.

(1) Clean the crankshaft flange before mounting the flywheel. Dirt or grease on flange surface may cock flywheel causing run-out.
(2) Install new o-ring in the flywheel mounting flange (Fig. 9). Use grease to hold the ring in place.
(3) Install the flywheel on the crankshaft and align the bolt holes.
(4) Install and tighten the new flywheel bolts as follows:
(a) Lubricate and install the 6 new flywheel bolts.
(b) Torque the 6 flywheel bolts to 49 N·m (36 ft. lbs.) starting with one bolt and following with the opposite one (cross tightening) until completion, in a clockwise direction (Fig. 10). - if bolts were numbered clockwise the diagram indicates they would be tightened in the order 1-4-6-3-5-2
(c) Loosen one bolt at a time and tighten to 19.6 N·m (14 ft. lbs.) plus 75° using the cross tightening method until completion.

hrrm. due to time constraints i got the mechanic at the factory behind to pop down and assist. based on the info we had plus his professional opinion they are now torqued up. hope to god they are done right. almost got the new donk in. just doing up those $^&$^&# M12's on the top of the housing now then it should be smooth sailing. all accessories are on. this has been one hell of a time changing motors / reco'ing all accessories!!! unlucky that it wasn't all done prior to the long weekend i will have to report back (tomorrow AM i hope) if my transplant was a success!

@deezl, yep - replaced the pilot bearing and thrust bearing whilst i was down there. figured ~$13 for the pilot was worth it... cant say the thrust bearing was as cheap - i bought it from jeep spare parts :-/

the pilot bearing on my old motor was dry as all shit and almost dead, the one on the motor im putting in had totally siezed and was spinning on the shaft instead (hence, with an almost new clutch it felt shocking to drive! i actually thought the clutch was almost gone until i stripped it all down and discovered that siezed bearing).
