Hi Ginga,

As Johnv said a few blogs back (he was referring to my WH) the Mickey Thomson 245x70r17 clear the bolt OK and fit snuggly into the spare wheel well in the rear. Overall, they are 23mm larger diameter than the standard 245x65r17 which strictly speaking is larger than the 15mm allowed by most raod authorities. However one could argue that being a true LT construction with a 1199R load rating are a lot safer for towing and off road work.
I have the ATZ 5 rib which have a 60K warranty and because of their LT construction only need to be run at no more than 32psi. Don't get the 4 rib as they are very noisy whilst the 5 rib are very quiet with just a slight noise almost undiscernible.
As Johnv said I have the OME 50mm lift with medium springs and Bilstien shockers.
The tyres have now done 22K and are wearing very well. That includes the trip up to the Cape in July last and then towing a van all through the Gulf Country (via the Savanna Way. A great tyre.

Cheers

Hi Dave, can you tell me where I can buy a respectometor?
When we look back in things we have done wrong in our lives we see our follys.
Maybe a respectometer would be able to make us see ahead and prevent them!

The advice I was given by the M/T dealer in Townsville didn't help -

Replaying our tyre conversations, I should have put the LT Mickey Thompsons on and will next time, after I change the front springs to match yours.

The Cooper ATR's are too light, have too few plys, I have holed two of mine on rocks in offroad conditions, always rears'.

The other consideration as you say is load rating, with a van that is heavy on the draw bar 2.5T++ the Coopers do not sit up, rather they bulge quite badly (overloaded)

Having said all that about ATR Coopers, they are a great tyre - if you use them for general purpose work - my vehicle with auxilary fuel tank, 2nd battery, fridge, camping gear and roof basket is a heavy vehicle and had such has probably fallen outside the normal range that ATR Coopers are designed for.
