cut a piece of square tube and put it between the middle latch and the under side of the grill/radiator support takes up that large gap and stops the flapping.

Fitted the AEV heat reduction bonnat & barely get any movement now.

I will vouch for the remove spring option.

95% effective in my experience on NT roads.

Flaps occasionally @ high speed (140 or so) with road trains doing 100+ the opposite direction

People in the US found simple safety solution - heavy duty cable ties over the rubber straps. You can still open it and it won't budge.
