K & N air filter for diesel 06 commander

Be careful with the K&N filters as you have to oil them. A mate of mine put one in his Hilux and the oil affected the air sensor and it had to be replaced.

I use an aFe washable air filter (http://afepower.com/). No oil. I got it at AMAZON of all places for about $60.00 au and $12.00 au postage. I buy my oil and fuel filters there to.

I've been using a K & N for 5 years in my CRD and it hasn't been an issue.

When you oil them you must be careful not to over oil. I would say your mate has over oiled.

The instructions on oiling make this point. To make sure I haven't over oiled I lay the engine side of the filter on some clean rag and blow low pressure air on the intake side.

If there is too much oil it will be dispelled and show up on the rag.

The other thing you can do is take the vehicle for a short run then take the air pipe off the top of the filter and feel if there's any oil in the pipe.

As i said before i had the issue with oil and the air flow sensor, so between that and having to take it out everytime you go on a dirt road it's just less hassle to run paper all the time and for the price i pay that dosn't bother me and it's quicker and less hassle to change a paper one over anywere anytime.

On the occasions that I travel the outback roads on trips I change over to a paper element. If I lived in the outback or, if I was travelling dirt roads a fair bit of the time I wouldn't use a K & N Filter.

I'm not convinced that they would trap all the fine particles because they are a free flowing air filter. In my view a paper element removes more fine particles that a free flowing system.
