You should check out some of the USA sites that specialise in the 2007 < Merc Sprinter vans because these run the same 3 litre V6 diesel. Van parts are cheap because they do so many miles and they need replacements fast and cheap. I've bought oil filters for $10 ex USA when they're $50 here in Oz.
Try Europarts in San Diego http://europarts-sd.com/.

What happened to your mates engine?

Thanks multihull, will get him to look into it. Cannot believe the prices for genuine parts. He's been quoted $1200 for a PISTON!! $800 odd for a con rod and $360 for rings. Seems a bit over the top. His engine unfortunately has had a gutfull of water and bent a con rod etc.
Thanks again for the info.

Brad
I've heard of one other Commander owner that water locked his V6 Merc diesel. He went flat out at a deepish puddle when driving on North Straddie island, the engine bang and he stopped. Funny about that.
Maybe your mate should also invest in a snorkel, it's cheap insurance if he plans to do more off roading.

Sorry for the late post, But Horsham Car Cantre in England is unreal service & great pricing. You can contact them on info@hccparts.co.uk. Saved me over $1300 on a EGR valve.
