That diagram is for the 96- OBD2 variant which uses the alternator as the tensioner, the 94-95 OBD1 models are different....

Good info though....

Should be able to replace the clutch bearing in situ by removing centre bolt & sliding the pulley & clutch off. Be careful not to drop the spacer shims for the clutch needed for exact clutch clearance. At the very worst, unmount the compressor but leave the hoses connected.

Couldn't find any belt sizes searching online (only idler pulleys to replace which would mean i have to take off my icy cold AC and get a regas when i get a new pulley and bearing.). So here's my input.

6PK2275 will bypass the AC compressor completely and jeep runs fine.

The fan belt drive has a lot less belt contact but had no issue with it getting hot city driving and idling (no need to manually turn on electrofan as i monitored it). The tensioner does sit a little higher than stock but still within tolerance and my string measurement was for a 2PK2260 or 2265 mm once you account for belt thickness. (there is size tolerance for a quick fix if other sizes aren't in stock.

Hope this helps anyone else who wants to keep their Jeep moving while sorting out AC issues!

On a side not if anyone has a AC Compressor clutch removal puller they can lend in Perth for a 6 pack of cold beers please holla my way.
Cheers
I ran my xj like this for 12 months with no issues , however take note the replacement bearings are hard to come by and crap quality, mine seized again after replacing the bearing in only 3 months , i would suggest ditching the compressor and replacing it.

If compressor is old, it may be near the end of its life. I replaced mine with a new one for $460. A/C never been colder.
Note: When the compressor fails, shrapnel from the old piston seals will enter the system. There is a filter in the outlet pipe where it bolts onto the compressor. Always worth checking if decanted. A blocked filter usually means compressor is on the way out.

Cheers for the info. I got it cheap and currently studying so am doing repairs and maintenance as cheap as possible at the moment!
(on a side note if anyone wants cheap oil filters z89a there's a ex mechanic in kewdale with a box of some obscure brand).
Right you are about the diagram, although pulley placement is still the same routing wise.
Picked up a junker AC compressor for $5 but stuffed that bearing getting the clutch off using levers instead of a clutch puller. The AC runs great and would rather put the $500 or more from a regas and compressor into maintenance, tyres and front shocks. Cheers for the advice but.

Post Super clean & garaged

I bypassed my on my 96 XJ A/C compressor on a 4.0L high output when the bearing went bad with a 6pk1980
6pk1995 will work too but there is a bolt in the way on a bracket that will have to be ground down a bit or it will rub against the belt

Did you see this from a few years back? To clarify I removed the bracket altogether and I had an electric fan set-up. Worked a treat.
