The reason for the inlet being at the bottom of the cooler is not for heat transfer (well not that I'm aware of), but rather for better filling of the cooler and the removal of trapped air with in the cooler. Once full of oil (and evacuated of air), and if there were no drain back when not running, it wouldn't matter which side of the cooler the oil entered. Having air in the cooling lines or cooler could cause airation an frothing of the oil, which has it's own set of problem, so best not to introduce new problems if you can help it.

Warning:
Temperature drop numbers are for radiators! Not tranny coolers!
You should have a tranny temp drop of 20° to 30°, if running effectively.

Hey DriftR try http://www.enzed.com.au/ or http://www.pirtek.com.au/

They will be able to sort you out. Get a Tee piece and 2 by 3/8 hose fittings and a reducer for the sender, comes to about $22.00 use Teflon tape to put it together.

When you get it in please let me know if you think the gauge is accurate.

Ok, i'm finally writing up a little report on my trans cooler/gauge setup. I've had it in for a couple of weeks, long enough to get an impression of how well it works. I've got a b&m 70268 for the cooler (http://tiny.cc/4hrdg) and a speco plasma series oil temp gauge (http://tiny.cc/duqhp) to keep an eye on the aw4. I've fitted the cooler in front of the radiator/ac radiator on the passenger side in front of the mechanical fan. The in radiator heat exchanger has been totally bypassed. The cooler came with a kit with just about everything i needed to install it, i only needed some hose clamps and some extra transmission hose. The speco gauge also came with a decent installation kit and the only things i needed to run the sensor in the transmission line were a couple of brass fittings from enzed. I installed the sensor in the outgoing line from the transmission to the cooler. The whole setup works really well, the highest temp i've seen so far (remember outgoing temp so the internal trans temp will be lower) is 70 degrees, which is pretty low. That was stuck in peak hour traffic with an ambient of around 15-16 degrees so it will be interesting to see how it goes in summer with ambients up to 40 degrees. Usually the gauge reads around 50-60 degrees which is pretty low (almost too low). One problem is that when i drive to work on the freeway at 5:30am the trans doesn't warm up at all. As soon as i am in suburbia and going slower the temp will raise a little. If the trans is already warm it will stay warm at freeway speeds. I'm going to have to look at fitting a thermostat so that the cooler will be bypassed when it is cold. I didn't want to run the fluid thru the factory heat exchanger as it will just run at close to engine temp which is a bit warm for my liking. I was also having occasional overheating problems wheeling in hot weather from the transmission dumping super hot fluid into the already hot radiator (all cooling system is new and 3row copper/brass radiator). Anyway that's enough for now i'll try and upload some photos if i can work out how to transfer from my crap ass phone...

Finally decided it was time to do something about this as the bus is now on 35s and working harder than ever. After much research i ended up ordering a Flex-A-Lite unit (same part # as mentioned in Go Jeeps website) and has more capacity than the worthless stock cooler and the dealer installed towing cooler combined (guess you need two coolers when you have a heat exchanger ). mounted the new unit behind my custom bar onto the cross support under the radiator (same as Go Jeep but in front of the support instead of behind). cut 3 new holes in the support for more airflow (again, same as Go Jeep) and plumbed it in. then i cut a large rectangle in the bumper to allow air into this area (the bar is currently being beefed up and freshly powder coated anyways so the timing was perfect). its still a work in progress and im in the process of making ducting to direct the airflow straight at the cooler (and not around it) and will install some protective alloy mesh once the bar is powder coated. then ill get an auto meter gauge with a manifold to see how cool she runs. the two old coolers were completely removed (the small factory unit is going to be plumbed into the power steering at a future date) and the heat exchanger in the rad was totally bypassed. so nothing in front of the radiator now except the ac condenser. engine temp has dropped around 6 degrees already. updates to come!

Are you intending too "add" some kind of a protective grille in front of the T-cooler (behind the front bar)?
