Default JK '11-17 Stereo Replacements

Has anybody tried the ebay/chinese head units that apparently come with a heap of features?? (bluetooth, GPS, DVD etc. even digital TV)

The most attractive thing for me is probably that it claims "plug & play". Meaning no warranty voiding, easy to replace if i dont really like it and also no cutting and splicing etc.

At about $600-700 they're not exactly cheap but pretty good price if all the listed features work as they should.

These cheap Chinese ones can be a bit hit and miss. I've had them in other cars and they have been worth every cent.

I installed an Eonon unit in my 2011. Paid about $350, it does everything and is plug and play. However the one issue I had with it is that I can not hear the person who called me. They can hear me, but I can't hear them. Everything else works perfectly.

It's something I couldn't work out a fix so I've learnt to live with it (No one calls me anyway LOL).

Apart from that, I can bluetooth my music from my phone and it works fine, just not calls.

So, just be careful, as I said, they can be hit and miss.

If you buy an android head unit just understand it's never going to be as snappy as your phone. I've got a joying head unit that is plug and play pretty much the same as previous poster and while most of it works it's is a bit of a pain to use because it's sluggish. Interestingly I have the same issue with my Bluetooth. If I would do it again I would get a head unit with Android play instead. The other thing that really annoys me is the fact that I can't see the time on the screen without cocking my head down and to the side awkwardly.

You never have to cut or splice the original in car loom for any head unit.

Simply buy a plug to suit your vehicle with bare wires coming out. Easy to splice in the shed and then plug and play into vehicle.

Just be aware, the quality can be poor.
I bought a 2DIN unit for my wifes car....
Apple connection - OK
NAV - terrible
Bluetooth - poor
Phone connectivity - drops out, doesn't remember phone
DVD - excellent
Radio - excellent
Rear View Camera - intermittent signal...reverses or flips the image upside-down or give no image at all.

So, just be aware, some of these cheap units really are just that.

My mate bought an awesome Android unit for his Hilux for only about 300 bucks, it ran Google Play so he could tether it to his phone for any app possible. The nav worked very well, as did all of the other features.

I had one of these units installed in my Commander , it was fantastic and worked for years and I could get map updates too.

I'd go the Android radio next time as it's does everything your mobile tablet or phone can do and you link it to a mobile hot spot or plug in a USB 4G dongle and then you can Nav by Google Maps to or use the down load maps on the SD card etc etc ........
