My 03 TJ with the NV trans will grate going back from 3rd to 2nd if I rush it. Otherwise, faultless.

learn to double clutch, even if it doesn't crunch it is good to do when the box is cold as prevents wear n tear on synchros

if you cant get Redline then get the proper Mopar transmission oil MS9224 stock number 04874464 from your dealer, or if you want to use something like Valvoline make sure it complies with MS9224, it should be stated on the bottle. Castrol Multitrax meets this and is common in auto stores, but wont have the attributes that Redline has, which is to ease troublesome shifting

Thanks,

Since Redline was out of stock we put in the Valvoline oil in and it didn't help at all, if anything it was worse. So to make it run best for the time being I put the Auto transmission oil back in. Just to get us by for a month.

We can get a brand new gearbox from the states for $1200 + $450 for postage. But I really would like to try the Redline oil when it's back in stock but just not sure if it's worth the $100...I am thinking I should just pay a gearbox specialist to just open her up and replace the syncros/find out what's really going wrong!

i found them on ebay relatively easy to find.
i find it interesting all u guys get grinding while downshifting...
my NV3550 has always been tight going from 1st to second with a nice clunk and minor crunch however buy double clutching, slow shifting and shifting at the correct speed reduces this dramatically though i usually just take off in 2n'd because 1st is way to low! my box has been like this since 2007 and not posed any issues since or gotten worse. my car did develop a nasty wiring noise which i mistook for the gearbox but turned out to only be the spigot bearing.
