Default '06 CRD Transmission in Limp Home Mode

Hi All

I am currently negotiating the purchase of an '06 CRD Commander Sport with around 130k from a dealer here in QLD. As the vehicle is in Noosa (and I'm on the Gold Coast) I had an RACQ inspection completed, and the report arrived this morning. The following items were listed as defects that need attention before the vehicle should be purchased:

* Wipers - Wiper delay system inoperative
* Engine Warning Light - flashing continuously
* Transmission - appears to be in Limp Home Mode, performance limited, no kick-down operation and will not rev past 3000rpm.

I'm guessing the last two items are related, and I've asked the dealer to have these issues resolved before I even consider going through with the deal.

After googling around it would appear that transmission issues plagued the early Commanders from new, and the icauses ranged from old trans fluid and filter, to trans control modules, to pressure switches.

Has anyone here run into the same problem with their CRD Commander? The rest of the car received a clean bill of health apart from dirty seat belts and light oil stains on the engine covers, so if they can fix the trans issue (they have a 6 year 200,000km warranty as well) I'll go for it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Wow, 38 views and no responses.

For anyone interested, the dealer called back today and advised that the issue was a faulty battery and has been replaced.

I've asked them for a full rundown of the error codes from the TCM and ECU, and to confirm what the warranty offered covers.

For those still playing at home, I have gone ahead with the purchase and will be picking the truck up on Saturday. The trans issue was due to a battery, and the dealer has thrown in an extended platinum warranty.

Cheers

Thanks, I'm actually having it transported down to the Gold Coast now and I'll pick it up on Monday.

The first order of business will be a dual battery setup. From lurking around here and other places I remember you were exploring the potential to house the second battery inside the rear left guard. Did you ever get around to this? Sounds like a good idea in theory as I'd love to keep the battery out of precious storage space.

No I ended up removing my rear third row seat, I then built a raised floor with the same height as old folded rears seats. Under this floor is a third battery plus storage for 4x4 recovery gear and more. The fridge then sits on top of this raised floor so it's flat and easy to side in and out.

Sounds like a good idea - if you could snap a pic or two that would be super.
