If you go the tie rod flip you can use the SJ Chero steer parts. They are larger and more durable.
The LH tie rod will have to be machined shorter.
The LH CJ tie rod will have the taper for the steer rod on the wrong side when flipped and would need reaming.
The inserts will work but I am not a fan. Get a 8 degree tapered ream and get it machined correctly. The larger knuckles will allow for the extra material removed.

I have used chev truck tie rods and chrome molly tubing for my high steer.
This requires 32mm DOM chromemolly tube with 6mm wall , 1 meter should do(www.perfomancemetals.com.au). Work out your lengths. Bore the ends out to 19.8 mm and use 7/8 UNS lh/rh threaded taps. Or you can use the 38mm tube with 6mm wall use weld in threaded ends. I got Tie Rods, Taps and ream from www.extremecustomfabrications.com in USA. Good service Mike is his name.

And all with a chain hoist, socket and screwdriver set to boot. I would say I'm into about 15-20 hours now, with about 30 jars labeled with different bolts.

I've had lots of luck, no dramas with rusted bolts. All but one bolt left between the tranny and the D300 (bottom bolt too hard to get a socket on). I don't know how the blazes that one is coming off.

I've got stuck into the engine and have found it not too bad. The top of the pistons have a good layer of carbon. The bottom end looks good. I will now take it to an engine builder for a look and a cleanup. I don't plan on using the old head.

Anyone have any pro's or con's?

Also a pic of where I'm at with the tear down. I'm now going to sort out suspension and if I need to do any welding or cutting on the frame. Otherwise the frame will be almost ready for the sandblaster. Before that I will have to do a bit more research on frame paint. Overall the frame is in great condition. WA sand and dirt everywhere but I should be able to clean it up nice. The good news is there isn't any visible rust.

is that a giant mirror in pic 3 ? have a look at por15 paint too
