I've owned Peugeot's for years and yes I'm biased. But parts are not bad if you know how to source them, and I'm not talking about non-genuine items. Certainly cheaper than factory Toyota spare parts in Australia, I've had three Landcruisers.

my mate has a 02 ford transit, so good he uses it as his dd. what motor is in that? (i know they are built in the uk).

as far as petrol goes, a tough torquey 4cyl with a SMALLISH turbo would be the go(nissan sr20). much more engine bay room. if you have ever driven a SAAB or Audi, you can appreciate full torque (more than the i6) starting from the 1900 region of your tacho.

i will be soon advancing the camshaft on my xj by 5 degrees to see if that makes it a better tow/tourer. i loved the way my old torana had maximum torque at 2100rpm (red motor)

I love the idea of the JK 2.8 diesel - 130kw same as 4.0 petrol 460nm, 1.5 times the torque at much lower revs, how good would that be.

add the 5 speed auto with a much lower first gear than the 4sd and greatly improved economy.

it gets good raves from magazines testing the 1900kg unlimited JK, an XJ is 300 kg lighter.

Now if i could find one at an attractive price and do as per the link to diesel magazine

The JK 2.8l is a diesel guzzler- you are seldom below 16l.
and the Ford transit is known for broken glow plugs falling into the engine causing big trouble...
