remember , if the level doesn't drop down while running , then there is a pressure problem .

It took just under 5l to fill marks on the stick looked about right. I haven't done the check while running to see if level drops. It has definitely been warmed up. It shifts into Reverse no problem smooth as silk. When you select drive there is a clunk and it starts the lurching.

Pump seal could be gone. It's pretty standard to change them on the 545RFE when pullng the TC.

just under 5 litres eh ?
last time I did a 545rfe it took at least 8 litres ,
I do know if there not on the right level they will "clunk"
check it while cold , see if sitting over the full mark , run it , go through all the gears see if it drops down , a leaky seal you will notice as it of course will show fluid down the bottom around the inspection plate.

Peter at South West Auto in Liverpool Sydney is very good with Chrysler stuff, just had my sons 42rle fully rebuilt there (JK with overdrive) and we also put in a Florida Torque converter. The gearbox took ten Ltrs to fill and it's a pain to check the level accurately as the oil drags on the dipstick

There is pressure testing plugs on the side of the gearbox just above the sump

I put about 5l in the box was nit totally empty the fluid and filter was only changed a couple of weeks ago as part of the elimination process. I know about the pressure test plugs on the side but I don't have the equipment to test pressure.

It would appear that I may have overfilled the box
