As I said, get a nut welded on. Don’t want to totally strip out the thread and need a new sump.

That’s my concern, cross threaded and rattle gun forced it in. If so, it is most likely leaking as well.

Hope that's not the case for your sake, probably not uncommon though.
In the past I had a car with an overtightened diff plug and another one with a cross threaded sump plug. Both buggered by workshop grease monkeys.
The idiots even put teflon tape on the diff plug trying to mask the resulting leak!

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about too. It's not leaking though.
The metal seems very soft - someone suggested using a cold chisel, but all that did was chip bits off it!

Never use a cold chisel, only end up chipping it away with these soft metal nuts, if the Plumbers wrench doesn't get it then I would use an easy out but again if you aren't square onto the plug its a waste of time..... more than likely a cross thread or they pushed instead of pulled and locked it up last time and it maybe didn't get the oil changed........... Have welded a new sump drain plug on a Cruiser when the old plug was stuffed up, used a pipe fitting with a 1" bung, best drain every.

Personally I would of took it back to the buggers who tightened the bastard up that tight, that way they could of removed the old and replaced with a new one, you want to be bloody careful if it needs butchering to get it out.
Dont bite my head off but are you swinging on it in the right direction, seeing how it was removed to have an oil change done not so long ago, a pair of bloody vice grips should of turned it.
As Drover stated if the plug gets any worse with no head on it at all, an EZI-OUT will be the only option
