Talking Playing with Tiptronic

Hi Peeps!

To my (extremely limited ) knowledge, the Commander doesn't have true tiptronic gear selection. Does anyone know of a mod that can be done to accomodate this? It would be nice to have a little more control of which gear I want to be in, rather than letting the slackomatic decide when it wants to change gears...

By Tiptronic do you mean Sequential shifting? If so the Merc transmission works very well by just tapping to the left to go down and tap to the right to go up. Or simply hold the selector to the left and it'll shift all the way down to 1st or hold to the right and up it goes to Drive (Auto select)

So yes it does have a Sequential style of shift control

However if you wish to hold the transmission in one gear it can't be done. This means if you drop it from drive to 3rd it will still go down to 1st at low speed and then only go as high as 3rd as you speed up. I don't think there's a way to hold it in one gear such as 2nd for a take-off while driving in snow. But this is probably not required with QDII traction system anyway.

Thanks for the reply Multihull.

Yeah, that's what I was kinda hoping for. Sometimes when I feel the urge to overtake, I don't feel it neccessary for the slackomatic to skip from 5th to 3rd. It would be nice to be able to floor it while holding either 4th or 5th. I'm now wondering if adjustments can be made to the transmission to enable this?...

In that case all you have to do with the standard Commander or WH Grand is to tap the shift to the left and you drop a gear to 4th. Or tap the shift twice to go down to 3rd and floor it! It also displays the gear your in on the dash so you know what gear you're in.
You've got Tipronics!
