Default Thanks

I haven't had a chance to sort the Jeep out yet as I work as a forest firefighter and live away from my property for the season.
I will get the Jeep towtrucked by RACV as it's exactly 100kms to the dealership and hopefully they are competent and fix it as they have to change the sway bar bushes as well.
What's the duration of the fuel filter replacement kms please?
Apart from the fuel filter issue the Jeep runs like a Swiss watch

Did this issue get sorted? Is there a ground wire to the fuel filter bracket, as this often gets disconnected and missed. I only know because a mates 2007 GC CRD (Mercedes motor) would not start after a head gasket rebuild (never again !) and one of the issues is we didn’t reconnect the ground wire.

What works for me every time. Applying grease to the plastic drain screw o - ring. Prefilling the fuel filter until there's is diesel coming out of the top metal bleed screw. Then drawing fuel with an 8mm OD tube through the bleed port at top of the engine (after closing the metal bleed screw at top of the filter).

By the way, 195K is low for a WG CRD. Nice find

Taking old Jeeps to the dealers for service/repairs isn't the best. Especially when young apprentices work on them.

I remember when my Dad thought it was a good idea to get the rear axle seal repaired (for roadworthy) at the local Jeep dealership. Ended up being a $1000 job, and the PARTS itself were more than what any reasonable mechanic would charge for the LABOUR alone. Didn’t even bother to clean up properly after the job too.

And a rear axel seal on most 4x4s isnt a very big job for a workshop that is supposed to have all the tools. No wonder a big job costs Mega Bucks. Most of the blokes they have working there probably werent even born when the WG rolled off the production line. A lot of smaller workshops have a more reasonable hourly rate and actually CARE about their work, not just the profit margin of their work.
Hopefully your local stealership is different, best of luck and hope you get the WG back on the road . Let us know on here how you go when its fixed.
Also, with any luck you wont have too many fires to fight this year, but we have all seen that change as the weather gets hotter. How long have you been a fire fighter?

Trying to prime the fuel filter with the starter is a no no. The main fuel pump runs dry in the meantime. Always prime the lines!
Hopefully the dealer does too...?
