Default Where to buy new Brake Shoes for the JK?

Hi All,

As usual the handbrake is not working and while getting custom lines fitted I asked the mechanic to have a look, this time it's due to the brake Shoe's being completely worn out (Odo 38k's). I can't find replacements outside of Jeep and was keen to hear suggestions, anyone know of aftermarket replacements?

Jeep Dealer quoted over $400's... I beleive this is absurd for brake shoes.

Thanks,
B.

How much meat was left on them. As i just did my rear pads and adjusted the handbrake at 42000km. The is a only about 2mm of pad material or even less in the middle and i'm thinking they need replacing. Hard to figure out why as the bloody thing only gets used when the car is stopped and even the half the time it doesn't work as the adjustment only seems to last until the next time you go 4wding. I was thinking of getting mine priced up to be rebonded as this might work out a better price. $400 for a set of shoes is absurd anyone would think it was a Toyota with spare part prices that high.

seems to me jeep parts are getting more and more expensive as time goes on it's got past the point of just being expensive. the prices are just plain extortionate.

$60 to get the brake shoes relined & matched to your drums from your local brake shop, your hand brake will work much better with the relined shoes as they are made to suit the drums & the new Jeep replacement shoes are made to fit a new drum so you will not get full contact between the brake shoes & the brake drum

Thanks for the feedback guys much appreciated, re-bonding them sounds like the way to go.

True northcoast I didn't, not sure who they called - they being the guys making up and installing the new braided brakelines - but I didn't question them after other pricing ive received for things like brake pads, diff oil etc. (should have asked you on those ones!) anyway if I my backup vehicle sorted this weekend I will just get them re-bonded otherwise I will drop you a line.

Cheers,
B.
