Default AMp wiring

hi, i recently got a 2000W soundstream amp that i want to install. i went to alberts stereo and asked wat guage wire i would need, he said 8 guage would be fine (probs the most prestegious audio shop in perth, i took his word). so i installed the amp with the 8 guage.
my prob is the amp will turn on, for about 20 secs, then trip the circiut breaker. the light comes on, but it wont power the sub. the wires are very hot.
now when i put my 450W amp in the same way using the same wire, it all works, the sub the amp, its all good.
i think i have narrowed to problem to either the wire is to small for the big amp, and it is drawing to much ampage througt the wire, or theres somethng wrong with the amp.
any suggestions??
i dont want to waste my money on 4 guage wire (expensive) if its the amp, but i dont wanna march into alberts and accuse them of giving me the wrong wire if its the amp.
im wondering if there is another explaination, or if some1 in perth has a amp wired with at least 4 guage wire so i can see if my amp works with their wire.

thx

Mate to me that sounds like a faulty amp. If it was the wiring it would power the sub but cut out or trip the circuit breaker under load i,e big bass note. Take it back to where you brought it from for waranty.

Would bet money on it being the AMP, 8 gauge will still power the amp up and should only get warm after real heavy use.
