Default 2000 XJ light switch knob

Hi guys, I need to take out my dash ( yes i know its giong to be an epic task) & i cannot figure out how to get the knob off the H/L switch.
I cannot take the top dash panel off because the knob won't go through the hole. (keep it clean here)
Does it have a tiny screw holding it on or do i need to take the centre out of the knob or.....
Thanks for your help

Theres a push button on the switch body behind the circular section for the dimmer control.

as carves said there is a little push botton on the bottom of the switch, i had to remove the lower dash panel to get to it.
Just push it in and the knob pulls out then you can undo the screw that holds the switch in.

Leave the knob pushed in ( lights off )

Reach up & in to find the button,

Depress it and remove the knob ... shaft comes with it.

Its a pretty crappy arrangement ... might need to wriggle it all a bit - gently

Awww ... I dont know about that ....

Besides ... with the job you're doing ... That was the easy bit ....

Grab yourself a parts manual & a workshop manual from here --> http://www.greatlakesxj.com/tech.html

And take lots of piccies before you rip bits out.

Ive stripped a couple down to the firewall ..... and hope I never have to put one back together again ...

Not with my temper anyway ...

Chrysler have been using that style of headlight switch since the Valiant days, the headlight switch in my Jeep looks almost exactly the same as the one in my VG! The only difference is a slight difference in pin layout.

Just a bit of trivia there

To get the shaft back in when you're reassembling, a firm push should do the trick.
