Hey guys,

Just joined today and thought I'd say hi. Last year I bought a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L V8 (WJ) and up until this past Sunday have had endless starting problems. I eventually got under the hood and decided to replace the starter, battery and battery cable clamps and voila, she starts strong first time every time!

Now, if somebody can just tell me how to go about fixing the excessive steering-play. I've had the alignment done twice and have also had Brakes Plus have a look at tie-rod ends but they tell me everything is fine and to have the alignment done by someone else. Anyway, right now I actually just want to take the car to a dependable Jeep mechanic and have it sorted. The car has also been raised (don't exactly know how many inches, maybe 3 or 4) and want to know if I can maybe fit 33' or 35' mud terrain tyres.

Any suggestions/recommendations are welcome.

Cheers

Welcome aboard

If you hold your steering wheel still does you Jeep steer itself slightly? Not sure what steering setup you've got but I had a problem on a car back home where it was steering when I wasn't, turned out the be a rooted nuckle joint in the steering column, it had a lot of play in the joints, made a hell of a difference when I changed it.
Get someone to move the steering wheel left to right while you look at all the steering components, should be able to see if there is any play.
Hope it helps
