Unhappy JK advice desperately needed!

Hi guys,

I'm fairly new to the forum and looking at buying an 09 wrangler unlimited pretty soon. Love the little community that you have going here and is another bonus to buying a jeep!

I love the look, the aftermarket parts etc and have heard much of their 4wding versatility.

In regards to reliability, I have heard of a few of the usual things i.e steering stabilizer should be replaced, updated seals on leaky roof. I am looking at cofirming a buy on one this weekend but i started googling their reliability and came across this thread which has REALLY alarmed me...

http://www.caradvice.com.au/3050/jee...alling-issues/

The article itself is bad enough, but what really alarmed me was all the user comment below the article from JK owners about a lot more than just the stalling issues. Many people mentioned long lists of problems all the way from transmission failures, engine rebuilds!?!?, excessive oil usage, stalling issues... the list just goes on and on with many owners saying they will NEVER buy a jeep again?

I was really excited at the prospect of getting a JK, can some fellow JK owners shed some opinions on all that bad feedback and inspire any confidence back into the brand for me???

Really appreciate any insight you fellas can provide for me

P.S Looking at a 09 JK unlimited petrol manual

All vehicles have thier quirks and Jeeps are no exception. However, there are many many thousands sold and few in comparison people complaining about them. Majority have happy motoring, albiet at not too cheap on the fuel!

My personal experience with Jeep is only around 5 months now, and I must admit that I had an issue within the first 1000 km (transfer case rear seal blew out). Am I happy over all? Yep. Would I buy another? Yep.

Have I heard of JK's stalling when being driven? No! Have been looking up info on the JK's for 5 months as mentioned and that one is new to me!

Thing is on forums/comments you really only ever read the negative side, people complaining about things that go wrong and looking for an answer, never from the thousands of owners who are happy as with their vehicles.

That article states 53 complaints which is a minor issue but still an issue of course, all vehicles have recalls etc...see how Toyota has been in the last year or so for example.

Buy your Jeep and enjoy it mate

My 2007 JK wrangler CRD Auto has been awesome. few very minor issues...no big ones. Excellent service from wangara jeep. These new JK drivers probably owned toyota. you can change a rig but it's hard to change a mind set.

I just bought a 2010 crd unlimited and I'm loving it. I spent 2 weeks reading about all the issues etc, I even have a big list here , mine goes in for it's first service 1k service in the morning and I love the thing. I went into it wide eyes open , I also spoke to 13 different people who had owned or still owned jeeps and they all swore by them, I reckon u would have to be unlucky to see more than one or 2 issues. I wouldn't buy a petrol one though as they suck juice like it's free. I got to the point where I didn't know what to buy, I decided I wanted to own a wrangler, not a 4wd. A wrangler is so much more and if it has issues I will just fix it , just like I pick the kids up when they fall down.

I have had a Subaru Forester for the last 6 years - a brilliant car. Drove like it was on rails, ran along the beach in both soft and hard sand and is a very highly praised vehicle. Jump onto any Subaru forum though and you would think they were lemons with a Subaru badge on them!

I swapped it for the Wrangler after a trip to Fraser that left me wanting to go where the big cars went Have also always loved the looks of the Wrangler, and the JK has only improved on that appearance in my opinion.

However, if you want a silky smooth daily drive road ride like the Subaru, dont look at the Jeeps. If you want to go places the Subaru drivers only dream of, get the Wrangler. It also helps if you are mechanically minded, but not imperitive - after all they are made by Americans - not reknownwed for being experts in repetitive build quality!
