Default JK Quarter panel rattle

Hi all,

A few yanks have found this as has Macca over in WA.

On your JK wrangler there exists the possibility for your quarter panel to rattle against the bodywork.

I do not know what the Dealer fix is, but I performed my own:

I hammered this panel in just a little bit (is still 2mm of clearance between these bits of metal).

And added some HD insulation.

I had my quarter panel off for other reasons. Most others just jam something between the two.

Update just figured out while putting it back together if you space the quarter panel out it will hit on the A pillar bracket upon assembly. I took a small drift and modified the quarter panel to suit.

Is this the noise I hear if I flick the radio antenna? Havent yet noticed it while driving, but caught the antenna with my arm walking past it heard a funny noise so flicked the antenna so it oscilated ans there was a very noticeable rattle/vibration in the inner guard somewhere. Holding your hand on the panel near the antenna mount stops it.

I'm thinking this could be the noise Ive been trying to find for 3 years. But mine is on the passenger side, do both have tendency to rattle?

Yup. Same design.

My passenger side sits hard up against the panel by the look of it, so no rattling. Drivers side sat hard up on the inner panel too and didn't rattle but I thought with the modifications I was making to the panel for the snorkel fitment I decided I'd make sure it wasn't contributing to the rattle.

Dave: behind the antenna is another bit of steel with curved edges to give the panel some support. It is pressed onto the quarter panel. So yes it could be rattling. But if you can't hear it while driving I wouldn't go playing with it. Reassembling the quarter panel and cowling is fairly annoying.

Yom what was the result of the mod? Have you got any noise or vibration now?
Could you have cut the outer panel to clear the sub frame where it was rubbing?

How difficult was the removal and subsequent replacemtn and realignment of the fender panel.

PM me your number I would like to chat about it?
