Default Another Tranny Cooling Mod

With some time on my hands over the holidays I decided to go ahead with a cheap little mod I had been considering. With summer here I wanted to see if I could reduce the heat load on my transmission by mounting an auxiliary fan on my auxiliary transmission cooler. In my endless quest for less transmission heat, I opted for a real cheap solution (fan was $22 and the switch and fuse holder were the only other things I had to buy so <$30).

I bought a quality 12V computer case fan with a mean time between failure of something like 13 years, fluid dynamic bearings, and about 40CFM of airflow out of little 80mm square that sits nicely between the grill slots.

I stuck some adhesive velcro (soft side - not the hooks) over the ribs of my grill and mounted the fan with some quick release ties (and I will get rid of the hideous green ones). It is wired back through a switch on the drop down panel by the drivers knees, and fused to 2amps spliced off the cigar lighter power lead.

There are some photos attached.

Note that:
* Yes tt is not waterproof, but it can be water resistant to a point - which is why it can be quickly removed.
* It is not intended to be a permanent installation but will only be used on really hot days for city driving or off road crawling.
* I know my switches don't match and they were done that way for a reason.
* These things can be chained together for more cooling capacity.

I still need to test the fan effectiveness and I will report back on that. The B&M tranny cooler (reported elsewhere here) drops the tranny fluid temp by 20-25F depending on conditions (that's in city driving, it works much better at highway speed = like dropping 30-35F). I'l be happy if the little fan drops the city & offroad temps by another 5-10F.

Happy New Year.

When I had my cooler on the V6, it worked a treat, but I used a 10inch thermo fan on it and when that was on, it took out a massive amount of heat, So your theory is sound, and it should make a fair difference when crawling allong.
