Angry Any Good Jeep Mechanics in Melbourne?

Right, so i just bought an XJ. 134000kms on the clock, body and interior in great shape. Done about 800 kms since i bought her and now the problems begin to emerge :

Leaking oil. It's spotting in about 5 places on the concrete. Got under the car and it's hard to tell where it's coming from. It's beading on the bottom of the oil filter and near oil pan but i can't really tell if it's coming from the head gasket, oil filter, etc... (praying it's not head gasket)

Water spits from the exhaust after start up. What's that about !??

Soft but constant knocking on passenger side after engine is warmed up. When i try to locate the knock, it can only really be heard clearly when i put my head under the dash on the passenger side. When i listen from the top of the engine i can't locate the bastard!

There is a noisy rattle, sounds like a chain rattling coming from somewhere under the car when i go over bumpy road. I can't find that either!

Anyone know a good jeep mechanic in Melbourne Vic.? I'm in the northern suburbs. Cheers.

Jeepers Beepers In Tullamarine, Poly 4x4 in Oakleigh, & USA 4x4 in Mordialloc. Just depends on which neck of the woods you are from. I use Jeepers currently coz they are closest & very good, but have used Poly in the past before I found jeepers & have used USA 4x4 for parts. Bit too far from me for servicing. All are very good.

Sorry Just read your post again & saw you are in the Northern subs.. Jeepers would be closest to you then. Give Brian a call.

G'day mate,

Did your Jeep come with a RWC? If so and it has been less than 30 days since it's issue? You might be able to claim some of the repairs against the Business who issued the RWC.

Just a thought.

without seeing it, i would guess the oil leak is an o ring in the filter mount, and mine always spits moisture out the exhaust when cold, and always has!

Exactly... this is a relatively easy DIY fix and the parts total less than $10.00 (that's dealership price) IIRC

There's a whole thread of ideas, suggestions and varying techniques (I'm sure there are more buried in the forums) - Oil Filter Adapter

EDIT: Another thought... pull off the filter and make sure the previous owner hadn't installed a new filter (and seal) over an old seal that had adhered to the adaptor housing.
