Default Tube Doors

Folks im thinking of designing my own tube doors for my TJ. the prices i've seen a pretty step especially considering most have to be shipped from the states with the shipping cost not included.

firstly, if anyone has any ideas or tips i would appreciate it.

does anyone know of a welder/fabricator around Bris that is good at this sort of thing? it wouldn't be to difficult a job.

I'm thinking 1 1/4 inch tube will be tough enough. seems most of the available ones are made of this.

Latches would be second hand, from normal doors, if i can get hold of them. i have heard of using gate latches with a spring to keep it shut, but id prefer to keep it looking as neat as possible.

Mirrors. to keep it legal, i will probably have a threaded tube just to attach cheap ebay jobs. makes them easy to take off for storage and so they dont end up in the scrub.

Will probably consider some sort of webbing/netting but that depends on whats available and ill worry about that once the doors are done.

as i said, any help is appreciated, and i'll be happy to post up plans if people want to copy once im done.

You might want to consider a tab to cancel the button in the doorframe for the interior light and provision for the door retention strap.
Also, some sort of rubber strips or padding to keep them off the paint work.
I've got Body Armor tube doors and they are designed to sit off the bodywork, they only make contact at the hinges and striker to avoid paint damage.
EDIT: (In my case) This means the latch has to be very tight on the striker to avoid rattling.

I like the idea of using nomal 2nd had door latches but they may look messy with all the internal plumbing that's required and normally hidden by the door panels.

i do like the body armor doors. something i think i'll base my design on. did you get them from an Aussie supplier?

i was planning on having them sit off the body to avoid rub.

a strap is definitely a good idea, i was just going to pull the fuse for the interior lights. is that a bad idea?

if you wouldn't mind mate, next time you have them on, could you snap me a few photos?

cheers

my interior light fuse is always out because i cant stand the bloody beeping when i hve my doors open and working on the jeep listening to music or what ever, i think it was fuse #4 in the glove box, mines been out for a year now, i have just gotten into the habbit of when i get in the jeep at night time either turn the lights on from the stalk or just get in and go.

just remember to make sure your lights are off when you lock your car and leave because the beepong warning wont be there anymore. warrior make a decent looking set for only 200bucks then you need postage, who knows how much quadratec charge for that tho

yeah mate any of the ones on quadratec look good, even the body armor ones that wes has are reasonable at 300 or so. i just cant justify pay close to that amount again on postage. the only way to make it a viable option is if 50 or so of us want em and we get a shipping container

Speak to victor from blackjack welding (victoro is his username) www.blackjackwelding.com.au as he is making them up and will be cheaper and stronger and of course custom so can include the tab to turn off light and a mirror mount!

Cheers
