The engine number on all KJs is (if still the original engine from the factory) the last six digits of the VIN (which is on the windscreen panel on the passenger side). The engine also has a label on it, which on the V6 is located on the left hand side of the engine (as your facing the front of the engine, aka the drivers side). The label is located below where the head joins the block (its on the block) and about half way up from the joint where the oil pans joins the block.

A lable (which is what the parts fiche calls it) may just be that, and I believe that all blocks require engraving or stamping as well - usually on a flat machined surface on the side of the block.

This information is from the Kj Parts Fiche. I don't have a V6 so I can't say for sure that everyone is the same but it's all the info I have. Maybe others can be more precise based on their experience with the V6.

I just went and had a quick look at my 3.7 and I think you would need to extract the engine to find a number on it if it is where Glend says.

Sorry, that's what the parts fiche says. I changed an engine once in a Ford and it took the Blue Slip guy a couple of hours work to locate and confirm the engine number (it was a new crate engine) - he used an extendible small mirror and some powerful lights to spot the little block stampings. It the engine has dirt on it you'd never find it.
