Welcome to the madhouse Jess, either way (auto or manual) you should love it regardless. Personally, if I was getting the CRD I would go for the auto for the little bit extra power and the less work off road.
Dont get me wrong I love my manual (petrol) but can see when offroad the auto would be handy. Also the clutch issue is a bit of a worry, but have also read of many that have 100,000 + with no problems. Also should be noted there will (hopefully) be some aftermarket Dual Mass and also a solid flywheel available shortly.
