Default sticking in 4wd

All of a sudden I am having a devil of a time getting my jeep out of 4wd (forwards, backwards, round and round, into park and out, into 4 part time and out.... nothing was working.... got it eventually though. It not handling as well as usual either. I had a blown tyre the other day and put on the spare (original tyre). It seems the ones the tyre guy put on are 225/70R15 while the original spare is a 225/75R15. Could this be making the difference?

cheers, Bill

Different diameter tyres on the same axle can cause diff wind up.

Ah, that would be the problem then. I wasn't sure the different number signified a different diameter. If I stay in 2WD until I get it changed I should be right. I am going to be disposing of a Wrangler 225/75R15 in new condition pretty soon if anyone needs one.

Thanks Kill.

i would not drive it 2wd or 4wd with different rolling diameter tyres as you will cause damage

In 2wd it will be OK short term providing you dont have limited slip diff or auto lockers. Not legal, but not damaging.

It equates to about 3/4 in difference in diameter on two equally worn tyres, or about the difference between an almost bald and a brand new one of the same size.

ok, I think I will err on the side of caution and get it changed asap. In the meantime I might deflate the bigger tyre a little. It wouldn't be so much of a pain if (a) I lived near a tyre place and (b) my other car hadn't met a roo the other day. I would change it to the front but (wouldn't you know it) my jack siezed. Thanks everyone.
