Smile Aftermarket Tyres and TPMS

Hi

I was interested in slapping on some aftermarket wheels/tyres. I have a 2011 Cherokee Limited with the TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System)

Will the TPMS alarm/chime or warning light be constantly on having aftermarket wheels that do not have the Jeep TPMS sensors installed?

Also, sometimes when roughing it on the beach, I drop the tyre pressure down to about 20-24 psi, and the low pressure light comes on and a warning chime goes off to alert me of the low tyre pressure. Is there a way of disabling this?

Thanks John

John,

Have a search around the forum and possibly the US forums I have read somewhere that compatable transponders can be fitted which are read by the KK system.

Good luck

Hey mos33y, I have tried these on my kk when I bought a set of 16" rims from a kj. I decided to get 5 as they were less than 1 brand name sensor from the jeep dealership. I was doing this as I plan to swap between the offside set and my original pirelli scorpions on the 18" rims. Unfortunately I cannot get them to sync and I have a tpms error light and the gauges all read --. It appeared to worked for the first 20 km's after installing the new rims and has been showing the error for the next 3000 km's. I think that our KK's might be transmitting on a different frequency as the dealership said that with the new sensors all they do is drive the car for 10 mins to calibrate them.

Oh ok. I thought it was the same frequency. I guess the million dollar question is how dealership calibrates them during the 10 min drive

I didn't believe the dealer had to do anything just operate the car for 10 mins and the system worked out which was which. Similar to driving in a circle to calibrate the compass. I could be wrong though.

You just drive. Are you going to keep using the OEM wheels? If not, just transplant the sensors to the new wheels.
