During my return from a NSW camping trip about 3mths ago I was towing the camper along some reasonably hilly hwy when I noticed a burning smell inside the cabin.... stopped a few times to investigate but could not locate the issue. Travelled on for approx 100km when the Transmission light appeared and has been on ever since.
Investigated the codes which indicated P-0700 code..
After returning home took it to my friendly mechanic who inspected the transmission and found nothing obvious and cleared the code.
Approx 500k later it came back on. Drove into Jeep dealership and was advised there was "a bit of junk in transmission oil causing low pressure, we cleared it, but if the light comes on again just have the transmission serviced"
Another couple of hundred K's and it was back on again. So had it serviced with oil & filters etc.
All good until the start of a recent LOST trip to West Kunderang and it was back on again.
I have since had it to a specialist Transmission shop who thinks it MIGHT be one of couple of things.
1. a metal side on the side of the transmision has blown loose enough to release pressure thus triggering the sensor
2. sensor block itself ($1000 + labour)
3. Torque Convertor issue which would need replacing
All unknown/confirmed until it is striped down and investigated.
Interestingly at the time there was a '02 3.7lte KJ (with far lower K's than mine)on the hoist, that arrived without 3rd or 4th gears - Item 1. above.
Bearing in mind that the car drives "as normal" all this time and therefore I have not made a decision of which way to go with this at the moment and open for any suggestions......Please
