Default XJ Snorkel install

Hey Guys,

I have an airflow snorkel to finish installing on a 96 XJ and looking for some info. The snokel itself has already been put in place and hole in the panel cut and have the hose sitting in the engine bay.

Does the air hose from the snorkel just plumb into the bottom of the air box at the back? Do you use any sort of fitting to attach it to or just put it through and use some silicone? Any thing that i should shouldnt do here?

And also what have you used to cover up the intake at the front of the box?

Any other tips on the snorkel install would be great thanks guys.

I have fitted these before, they come with a fitting that I have used for the rear of the airbox, it was a 45* black elbow which I plastic welded into place, as for the front I cut off the extension that protrudes from the front of the airbox and plastic welded a piece of it into the hole to seal it up.
I also use pinch weld to cover up the hideous mess of a hole in the inner guard and this also stops the hose from rubbing on bare metal.....

Ah ok thanks junglejuice,

The first part of the install was already done when i got the car so not too sure exactly if that has been done correctly or not but seems to be ok.

I got a few boxes a parts and pieces with the car so ill have to look for the attachment. If i dont have that is there another way of doing it or would i have to fab up some sort of attachment for the hose to go on.

Does the hose clamp to the attachment?

BTW whats invloved in plastic welding?

Thanks mate

Yes the hose clamps to the fitting, if I get round to it I will put up some pics of my install so you can see what I mean.
As for what I can see of yours I would be concerned about the metal edge of the hole rubbing on the hose but I am ******** about that sort of thing, also why is the ecu mounted at the back of the engine bay?
As for plastic welding I use a big soldering iron and some suitable filler and do it in a similar way to welding metal....

Cheers Junglejuice much appreciated, some pics would be of great help.

They old owner of the car had half installed a donaldson filter in there but it was huge so he made a mount up to put the ecu at the back of the engine bay. I just took it out and got a factory box and got the factory mounts for the ecu so it will all go back to normal positions when i finish the snorkel install.

Anything you recommend to do with the metal edge rubbing on the hose.

Thanks...
