Default What to do with a dead F134? Ideas needed

Hey guys I need some ideas with what I should do with the engine for my '65 cj6.
I stripped down the F134 and the rod end bearing has spun leaving some nice gouges in the crank journals (explains the nice knocking sound when it was running!)
I figure that I have a few options:
1. Rebuild/reco the old F134
2. Buy another running F134
3. Swap in another engine type eg 4cyl/v6?(no V8s)

The cj6 is completely stripped down at the moment as a bare chassis and the build-up will be so that it looks original. A few key mods to make it go and stop can be tolerated

Anyone else been through this? Ideas are needed!

Ive got 2 jeeps that run the F-134 Hurricane ...It depends on what you want todo with your jeep if you just want to put it on Vintage rego or full and poke about i would just get another crank and rebuild the hurricane (72HP)..but if you want more power than a ford 6cyl (130HP?)would be the next choice ...but to get the benifit of the bigger motor you will need to install an overdrive or a ratio change in the diffs which isnt as good...another good thing about the hurricane is they are great in 4wd they chug along allday and handle the heat real well ...also which we didnt get any in aus but some early CJs in the states(not many though)came with the Perkins Deisel which is the same motor as the Massey 168/178 tractor which are quiet common here but they are a similar HP to the Hurricane ...cheers mick

Thanks Mick,
For this Jeep I want to bring back to original condition, probably with a few 'period' mods, but will mainly just chug around with a bit of off-roading here and there.
From what I've read, these engines are pretty tough, can be tuned up a little and aren't too expensive to build. You've got me thinking about the diesal option now......hmmmm

I recon stick with the 134ci donk... be it rebuilding the old one or a replacement. The more original and with apropiate mods the better it will look and it should hold a better resale. I think you would kick yourself in the future if you go the non-original path.
There is a certain buzz when you can drive around a classic.

Sounds like a good plan Phil, I think I'll stay with the F134, might hunt around for another running engine to slot in, It'll get the beast back on the road sooner!
Now, where to find a runner.....?

Cheers
Chris
